The maintenance of the marginal bone is crucial both from a functional and an aesthetic point of view. Yet some bone loss is commonly accepted as an unavoidable consequence of implant treatment. We have never accepted this approach because there is no reason why you or your patients should have to accept bone loss.
Preserving marginal bone levels and establishing the biological width at the abutment level are really about ensuring the right stimulation of the bone and promoting healthy soft tissue. We have known this from the beginning when we started in 1985.
To design a successful implant system, one needs not only a great deal of knowledge about biology, mechanics and chemistry, but also about what happens when the three interact. Early on in the development of the Astra Tech Implant System™ we realised the value of a holistic approach. This is why our implant system is uniquely based on biological, biomechanical and biochemical principles.
We have created an implant system where several interdependent features work together:
OsseoSpeed™, MicroThread™, Conical Seal Design™ and Connective Contour™. Known as the Astra Tech BioManagement Complex™, it is this unique combination of key features that provides reliable and successful long-term results.
Each key feature plays an important role. The chemically modified OsseoSpeed surface stimulates the healing of the bone around the implant. MicroThread and Conical Seal Design then maintain the bone through optimal biomechanical and biological conditions, providing optimal load distribution and eliminating micro-movements and micro-leakage. Connective Contour creates the correct geometry and increased soft tissue contact zone and volume that protect the marginal bone.
This is the secret behind the minimal 0.3 millimetres mean marginal bone level reduction when working with the Astra Tech Implant System.
